Biography of Al-Hussary:
Sheikh Mahmoud Khalil al-Hussary, widely acclaimed for his accurate recitation of the Qur'an, committed the entire Quran to memory by the age of 8 and began reciting at public gatherings by age 12. In 1944, Al-Hussary won Egypt Radio's Quran Recitation competition, which featured around 200 participants. The quadrumvirate of El Minshawy, Abdul Basit, Mustafa Ismail, and Al-Hussary are considered some of the most important and famous Qurra' of modern times with a significant impact on the Islamic world.

Early life:
Mahmoud Al-Hussary entered the Quran School at the age of four and had memorized the entire Quran by age 8. He later enrolled in training at the Ahmad al-Badawi mosque in Tanta and received a diploma in al-Qira'at al-'Ashr from Al-Azhar University in Cairo.

Service:
Al-Hussary joined Egypt's official Quran radio station as a reciter in 1944. He was also appointed as reciter at the Ahmad al-Badawi mosque in 1945 and served as a Muqri at Sidi Hamza Mosque. In 1955, he was appointed to Al-Hussein Mosque in Cairo where he remained in service for 29 years until his passing.

At Al-Azhar:
Al-Hussary studied and taught at Al-Azhar University, leading the department of al-Hadith bi Jam'i al-Buhuts al-Islamiyah in 1960. He was renowned for recording the complete Quranic text in various recitation styles and authored several books on Quranic sciences.

Recognition and awards:
In 1944, Al-Hussary won Egypt Radio's Quran Recitation competition among renowned participants. Al-Azhar awarded him the title Shaykh al-Maqāriʾ and he received recognition from Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser. He was elected President of the Islamic World League of Quran Reciters.
